It is never too late to follow your dreams!

Our owner and founder, Ms. Netra adores Maya Angelou and we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge Ms. Angelou even more than we already do during Black History Month. Maya Angelou once said, "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it." This quote is a testament to the fact that success is not defined by age or gender. Black women over 40 often face unique challenges when it comes to pursuing entrepreneurship, but it is never too late to achieve your dreams.


Many women in their 40s and beyond feel like they have missed their chance to pursue their entrepreneurial goals. They may believe that they have missed the boat or that they are too old to start a new venture. However, the truth is that there are countless examples of successful female entrepreneurs who started later in life and many of us know their names by heart. Yet sometimes we may know something, yet unable to really act on it and follow through.  Fear is REAL and often stops us in our pursuit of our dreams.


The point is that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. As Maya Angelou said, "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." Black women over 40 may face additional challenges, such as lack of access to capital, discrimination, and societal expectations, but these obstacles can be overcome with determination, hard work, and a willingness to learn and adapt.


One of the advantages of starting a business later in life is that you bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. You have likely developed a strong work ethic, valuable skills, and a network of contacts that can be leveraged to launch your venture. You may also have a better sense of your strengths and weaknesses, which can help you make more informed decisions.


Another advantage of starting a business later in life is that you have a better sense of what you want out of life. You may be more focused on creating a legacy, pursuing a passion, or giving back to your community. This clarity of purpose can be a powerful motivator and can help you stay committed to your goals, even in the face of adversity.


In conclusion, Black women over 40 should not let age or societal expectations hold them back from pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. As Maya Angelou said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." If you feel called to start a business, go for it. Your passion and determination can inspire others and make a positive impact on the world.  Embrace the changes and challenges that come with starting a business later in life, and remember that success is not defined by age, but by the impact you make on the world.
